Welcome Father Louis Vu to St. Bernadette Parish

Fr. Louis Lam Vu was born in February 28, 1955 near Saigon in Vietnam, around the time of the infamous split between North and South Vietnam. As a result of the split, his family left the North to settle in South Vietnam. Father Vu grew up during the Vietnam War and entered the Seminary at the age of 12 as was common in his native land. In April 1975 when South Vietnam lost its independence, Fr. Vu and his two brothers were able to flee the country aboard a U.S. Navy ship. After a few months in the United States he entered St. Charles Borrowmeo Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1980. In 1981 he transferred to the Diocese of Lafayette and continued with theological studies at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.

Fr. Vu was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Gerald Frey for the Diocese of Lafayette on June 1, 1985. His first assignment was to the Church of Assumption in Franklin as Associate Pastor for more than four years. In 1990 he was assigned as Pastor of St. Anne Church in Mamou for four years. After a year off and temporary assignments at Sacred Heart Church in Baldwin, and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Iberia, Father Vu was assigned as Pastor of St. Anne Church in Youngsville in May 1996. Fr. Vu was also assigned as Director of the Diocesan office of Vietnamese Catholic Ministries. Fr. Vu's newest assignment is to be the Pastor of St. Joseph Church in Patterson and St. Bernadette Church in Bayou Vista.

Fr. Vu looks forward to serving both parishes and meeting with his new parishioners. Fr. Vu also wants to thank all those who have warmly welcomed him to the parishes.

We welcome Father Vu to St. Bernadette Parish as our new Pastor.
